The bill colour of every adult individual is matched to a drawing.
In this way, we hope to learn more about the origin of the Dutch breeding population.
Also DNA-techniques are used to learn more about this.

Birds from the Deelen show the same migration pattern as the birds from the Oostvaarders- and Noorderplassen.
A large part of all observations originate from locations outside the ringing site.
From November till February a large part of the birds from Deelen winters in Spain. The majority can be found
in the south-west in the Coto de Doñana. Also some birds are observed during the winter months along
the French Atlantic coast and in the delta of the river Po in Italy.
